Wandering around in the Old Bastakiya quarters of Dubai

…in search of culture and some old world charm
I find myself wandering around in the narrow alleys of Bastakiya
traditional wind-tower architecture, beautiful arabian courtyards, walls adorned with oil lamps
away from the hussle and bussle of the busy city outside..
quaint corners with pink bougainvilleas, carved wooden doors, cobblestone streets also home to burgeoning art scene
huge ghaf trees giving shade, birds chirping softly in the background
all transporting me back to a bygone era..
clearly telling me this is where my heart lies
this is where I find solace
this is what I seek, an old world charm!
Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding conducts regular tours to Bastakiya which are very useful in understanding the culture and heritage of Bastakiya. Details could be found here.
